Hanuman Luge Adventure

My heart raced nearly as fast as the slick black sled beneath me carrying your adrenaline pumping body down Hanuman’s winding new Luge tracks. As I gripped the wheel brake attempting to control my jungle joyride’s speed past swaying palms and vine-laden cliffs at nearly 40kph, a historic 30-foot statue emerged around a blind corner. I couldn’t help grinning at the sight of the revered Balinese monkey God Hanuman standing guard over this new gravity-fueled attraction which embodies his daring and playfulness.

According to legend, Hanuman commanded an army of powerful monkey warriors chronicled in the Hindu classic tale the Ramayana. With courage, heart and wit, Hanuman selflessly battled enemies to uphold dharma and save the kidnapped princess, despite facing adversaries twice his height. The Hanuman World theme park, nestled on 11 ares of protected rainforest just 10 minutes from Phuket Town and 20minutes from Patong Beach, newly opened their luge ride expansion this month to highlight the noble monkey’s fierce loyalty and joyful attitude.

Gliding downhill without needing any engines or electricity, luge riding resembles an extreme sled run meeting a rollercoaster. However, unlike passive theme park rides, luges allow riders to control the speed and direction using subtle body leans and light hand brakes along the gravity-fueled descent. As the winding, 350-meter track took me past ancient statues and through the lush jungle at pulse-quickening velocities up to 60kph, this interactive aspect dialed up both the thrill and sense of achievement.

After the safety briefing and track overview, attendants in vibrant sashes helped us climb onto the narrow sleds and get positioned lie almost reclined, feet first down the gleaming steel rails. As you push off, the initial slope quickly ramped up speed, whipping yourself around sharp turns and downhill curves revealed gorgeous glimpses of jungle vistas and temple rooftops peeking through the canopy. Despite the velocity, an ever-present hand brake allowed managing thrill levels even for first-timers while body weight shifts steered my graceful slaloming.
